What this site is

Farmer Insurance UK is an information resource for people who farm, own smallholdings, run rural businesses, or advise those who do. It explains how farm insurance policies typically work, what terms like sum insured or reinstatement value mean in practice, and what questions to ask before you take out or renew a policy. It does not sell insurance, and it has no arrangement with any insurer or broker to pass on your details.

This is not financial advice

This site is not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), and nothing on it is financial advice, insurance advice, or any other activity regulated under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000. The content is general information only. It does not recommend that you take out, change, or cancel any specific policy, and it should not be treated as a substitute for advice given by a person who is authorised to give it.

If you need advice on your own circumstances, that means speaking to a broker or insurer who holds FCA authorisation for insurance distribution. Our guide to finding a regulated farm insurance broker explains what that authorisation covers and how to check it.

Calculator and tool results are estimates only

Some pages on this site include calculators, such as tools that estimate rebuild costs or livestock values. These produce illustrative figures based on the information you enter and general assumptions about cost or value. They are not a quotation, an offer, or an inducement to buy any insurance product, and the figure a tool gives you can be wrong for your particular buildings, stock, or circumstances. Any decision about sums insured should be checked against a formal valuation or quotation from a regulated insurer or broker.

Links to insurers and brokers

Where this site links to an insurer or broker, that link is clearly marked as an external link to a regulated firm. Including a link is not an endorsement, and it is not an introduction made in exchange for a fee. We do not compare named insurers against each other, rank them, or suggest that one is better value than another, because doing so without FCA authorisation would go beyond what an information site is permitted to do.

Policy wording

Where the site describes what a policy covers, it describes what farm insurance policies typically include. Actual cover, exclusions, and conditions are set out in the policy document you receive from your own insurer, and that document governs your cover. Two policies described as covering the same risk, such as livestock mortality or business interruption, can differ in what they exclude and how they define key terms.

References to FCA rules and the Financial Ombudsman Service

Where the site refers to FCA rules or to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS), it links to the official source for that rule or process. Our claims and dispute guidance page covers what the FOS can and cannot do if a claim has gone wrong, but it is not a substitute for reading the Ombudsman's own published guidance, which sets out your rights in full.

How we handle your information

This site does not collect personal information for the purpose of passing it to an insurer or broker. Doing so would itself count as a regulated activity, and we are not authorised to carry it out. If you contact us directly, that information is used to respond to you. Terms used throughout the site, including the ones mentioned above, are set out in full in the farm insurance glossary.
