Livestock Value Estimator
Add a group for each type of animal you keep, enter the head count and your own approximate value per head, and this tool will add up a total for the whole holding. It does not supply, suggest or default any value: every figure comes from you.
This estimator only adds up the figures you enter. It does not value livestock, does not recommend an insurer and does not arrange insurance. Agree your final sum insured with an FCA-authorised broker.

Three things worth checking before you insure
1. Any-one-animal limits
Most livestock policies include an any-one-animal (or single-article) limit: the most that will be paid for a single animal, whatever your overall sum insured is. If a pedigree bull, a stallion or any other individual is worth far more than the average you have entered for its group, check that limit against your most valuable animal before you agree cover.
2. Market value versus agreed value cover
Market value cover pays out based on what a similar animal would have cost at the time of the loss, which can move through the season and between breeds. Agreed value cover fixes a specific sum for a named animal in advance, so both sides know what will be paid if it is lost, though the animal usually needs to be identified and valued when the policy starts.
3. The average clause
If the total sum you insure is lower than the true value of your livestock, an insurer applying an average clause can reduce a claim payment in the same proportion that you were underinsured, even for a partial loss.
